Until this book， for me， Marie Curie was an exceptional scientist who won the Nobel prize twice。 This book showed me how inspirational her life was。 Hardship when she was young， love for her family， her sacrifices， her patriotism towards Poland， helping underprivileged kids are presented as nice stories in the first third of the book。 Her life took a different turn when she could finally pursue her dream of studying Physics in Paris。 Then the partnership with Pierre Curie。 Their mutual understan Until this book， for me， Marie Curie was an exceptional scientist who won the Nobel prize twice。 This book showed me how inspirational her life was。 Hardship when she was young， love for her family， her sacrifices， her patriotism towards Poland， helping underprivileged kids are presented as nice stories in the first third of the book。 Her life took a different turn when she could finally pursue her dream of studying Physics in Paris。 Then the partnership with Pierre Curie。 Their mutual understanding， like-mindedness， respect for each other are exceptional。 The accidental death of Pierre Curie was a big blow to her。 Then we see the strong willed Curie setting up mobile x-ray units during first world war and training people to operate x-ray machines。 In the last part of the book we get to see more of her work life， life with her children， her struggles to do Science even when her health was failing her and her sad demise。 The book contains many excerpts of letters of Marie， her family or her close friends which enriches the story telling。 As the book is written by her youngest daughter， Eve， we get to see Eve's opinion of her mother or Eve's narration of various life events and some time Eve herself become character in the story she is telling。When I picked up this book I thought I will learn more about the controversies involving Langevin and Marie Curie。 But that was not covered in this book。 Overall I recommend this book。 。。。more

Es besteht kein Zweifel darüber， dass Marie Curie eine Außergewöhnliche Person und Wissenschaftlerin war。 Die Darstellungen der Tochter waren einerseits sehr interessant， da ein Einblick in das Privatleben gewährt wurde。 Andererseits mangelte es an der nötigen Objektivität， sodass ein sehr einseitiges Bild transportiert wurde。 Vielleicht werde ich mir noch eine andere Biografie zur Hand nehmen， die einen stärken Fokus auf die wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit legt。
